HomeMade Digital launches new UNHCR 'Gimme Shelter' campaign site

Yesterday, 14th October 2009, HomeMade Digital launched the new UNHCR website for their 'Gimme Shelter' campaign. We have worked closely with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and Think Consulting Solutions to produce the new site and we are very proud to be part of this new campaign. From the initial design work, to the Drupal site build and the construction of a comprehensive social media strategy, HomeMade worked with the fantastic team in Geneva to deliver what we believe to be an engaging and dynamic campaign website.

The site has launched to coincide with UNHCR’s push to win the US$50,000 prize on offer from October’s America’s Giving Challenge: a 30 day competition between charities to achieve the highest number of unique donations through Facebook Causes. The money would be enough to buy 250 all-season tents which can offer shelter to 1250 refugees! The site promotes this call to action by highlighting the horrific condition faced by the millions of refugees displaced in the two decades of instability and civil war in Somalia. To keep content fresh and supporters coming back to the site UNHCR are offering daily updates in the real story of a refugee woman: Sadiyo Hussein Haji, as she flees the Somali capital Mogadishu in the search for shelter.

October’s Giving Challenge will be followed by extra functionality for the site including peer to peer fundraising pages for supporters – so watch this space!
